How Not to Be Scammed by Fraud Voice Over Workshops

How Not to Be Scammed by Fraud Voice Over Workshops

How Not to Be Scammed by Fraud Voice Over Workshops
By Industry veterans:

Brian “Dj BigBrian” Ligsay and Pocholo “The Voicemaster”Gonzales

Voice acting and voice overs is a fun and enjoyable environment for many. But for the most part, it is considered as a business by those who take it seriously.. Just like any business practice, it is important to make wise decisions in choosing and investing your money on seminars and workshops pertaining to the industry. Unsubstantiated information may do you more harm than good. Here are some indicators of what to look for in false and often misleading voice acting seminars:

1. Number of Attendees. (Check out pictures on voice acting)

- Voice acting involves interaction and reaction from both the instructors and the participants. A good methodology involves one-on-one training and close attention to performances in a group. However, the more the attendees, the poorer the quality of learning. Look for a class that involves mic handling and actual coaching. The rule of the thumb is, any class that involves more than 10 participants is a scam.

2. Reputation (Listen to what people say)

- How many times have they offered their classes? Have they been producing able and active voice talents? Are they a company of good standing in the industry?.. Do some research. A good seminar will immediately tell you their success stories involving their attendees and instructors. It will always tell you who will be handling the seminar.. Who will be teaching who? Otherwise, they could have just gotten anyone (perhaps an entry level producer or an amateur), to teach you subjects not even related to voice acting.

3. Join to Earn (Click here for Industry VO Legends)

- Sounds more like a pyramiding scam than a seminar. Nobody becomes a voice actor overnight, it takes dedication, passion and long days of labor and constant practice to be one. So if somebody is trying to entice you that you can earn big through voice acting if you join them, chances are they just want to earn big from you instead.. A good seminar will focus on teaching you the art of voice acting, the techniques involved in learning the art form. Yes there is monetary gratification in voice overs… you do get paid to have fun.. But go ask any professional voice talent and they will tell you the real side of the entertainment industry.

4. Too much of too less (Available seminars on voice acting)

- If you have been doing voice overs or researching on trying to break into the business, you should be aware by now that voice acting itself is a broad terminology on different acting areas of the art form. Some professional seminars will focus on one aspect of the seminar at a time (like narrations, audio books, commercials, etc..) You cannot combine two unrelated fields of voice acting in one sitting (like dubbing for telenovela and commercials for radio), because each field requires a different set of skills and discipline. Unless the seminar clearly states the details of the workshop, and what happens when, be on the look out for self-proclaimed voice artists who will do more talking than teaching.

5. Location is key (See our studio setup and graduation pics)

- Voice acting seminars should always feature a competent environment to work your skills on. It should mention that the seminar will be held in a proper setup, involving studio microphones and recording sessions. If they are not willing to record your voice for evaluation, then be on alert for money-making individuals. A good seminar will involve you testing and trying your skills on actual recording sessions. Here’s a good formula.. Let’s say you will be asked to read a 5 minute script. In a normal recording setup it will at least take 15 minutes for a good voice actor to finish a 5 minute material. Let alone the editing and the recording preparation involved. So normally, you will spend about 20-30 mins in a studio for a recording session.. 20 in a group you say? Are you willing to wait for 9.5 hours for your turn? Or will they even record you by then?

Whatever your purpose may be in joining a workshop, whether it is for self-improvement or overcoming anxieties behind the microphone, always be sure on who you trust to work with your talent. Professional voice directors will always be there to offer their assistance on your improvement, would have at least 10 years of industry background and experience and has done and produced an extensive lineup of projects here and abroad. Don’t be mislead by “money-for-their-cause” voice acting workshops. Let the professionals help you join their ranks, call CreatiVoices Productions at 7297274 or 9700971 and they will be there to assist you in discovering your potential in the world of voice acting. Basic MIC Techniques

Voice actors being "angels" inside a professional studio need not touch equipments. Ah.. but what if your powers are called to action - live? Everyday I'll post you basic Mic Techniques you can keep in mind when talking in public and formal engagements.. and share experiences of course!

1. Audition the Mic.
- Never blow, tap or whistle on the mic. It's very annoying and unprofessional. To properly test mike signals, snap your fingers on the receiver. Make gestures and hand signals to the technician, before speaking. Its always funny to see people talking on "first-hand" mics and fumbling on stage.. you dont want that experience, believe me. ;D

2. Hold it properly.
- Don't hold the mic by the head, sideways or upwards.. Dynamic mics, the kind usually used for solo performers and live speakers are better spoken over to, and not directly. So the best way for you to do this is to hold the mic by the stem, slightly slanted, and about 2 inches away from the tip of your chin. Oh, and the way for you to estimate that, is by using your thumb to measure the distance. (Just don't hold talk and hold it like that every time). Remember talk over it. Not directly at it.

3. Never Kiss the Mic.
- You do not let your lips damp the rim or the protective metal shell of a dynamic mic. Especially if you are doing it in a live performance. It destroys the quality of the pick-up. And the bigger reason being, is that people handle these mics differently every time. As we talk the breath contains moisture that gets into the foam, and may culture the growth of fungi and bacteria, and degrade the metal cover with rust.

Note that some lights and sounds setup provider, claim that they treat the mics with alcohol (yeah, sure.) But have you ever wondered why some mics have that funky smell?.. Its because it hasn't been properly disinfected, and you're romancing it.

4. Do not shout.
- Microphones are built to help you in your performance. Most amateur VO talents shout on the mic in big crowds and venues. This is a no, no. Believe it or not, even Michael Buffer is not actually shouting before that boxing match.. If you are finding it difficult to speak because you cant hear yourself, ask the technician to raise the volume of your monitor speakers (the ones infront/side of the stage, usually). You can also use a headset to monitor the level of your voice when performing as a VO. This will help you cope with the delays in audio in large venues.. It is very hard to talk when you dont have a good ear, so make sure you are covered by doing auditions of your lines before hand.

5. Think before speaking.
- Complete the thoughts in your head thoroughly before talking. Haven't you noticed why some people eat their words, fumbling at the act and in turn making them totally incomprehensible? (cue dubbing line: "Anong sabi mo?!") That's because their brain is thinking faster than their body can react. They thought that the idea has been completed in their heads, to the point that they think they already said that matter to you even if they didn't. (Does that make any sense?) Ok wait.. Its like, trying to match your brainwaves with the speed of your lips - which is almost certainly is impossible. This also commonly happens to bloggers/writers who thinks so fast while typing and jumps a word or two.

Though some may argue that this is normal at times (in an abnormal fashion I guess). When behind the microphone, facing an audience or unseen, that is.. things are definitely different. So the rule is: Complete the thought. Practice your material. Then perform.

There's a saying in the world of Voice Overs which goes: "You are only good as your last performance."

Get ready for VoiceWorx! 6

A New Breed of Voices.

By: The Godpodder

For many years, the word “voice over” have been implied as an easy-paying, non-popular, spur of the moment sideline, that only a select few of “big voices” can take on it. In fact, many thought that doing voice overs is so easy, that practically anyone can jump right into it and earn big time. And that all that is required is for you to have is a booming, modulated, “voice of god” type of resonance to pull it off.

The part of earning big might be true to some extent, but for the most part, everything about doing voices is now considered to be more difficult than any regular paying job. Thanks to technology, doing Voice Overs or Voice Acting has now earned a reputation of being exclusive to those of the extraordinary, is slowly being accepted as a career of choice, and in reality... Voice acting is a painstaking form of art.

Yes, technology now plays a vital role to a Voice actor’s dream of making it a career. People who are looking at this not just as a hobby, consider making the important step before entering the industry - researching and learning. Now you can browse the internet to find acting classes, lessons and voice coaching in your area. And by learning and experiencing the execution needed to land those VO jobs, voice actors and enthusiasts are discovering a new and better approach to their performances and in return give more value to their talent.

That’s what VoiceWorx! - Basic Voice Acting and Dubbing Workshop prepares you for.

“It’s a workshop aimed to introduce to you the voice acting world, and how you can master the techniques and skills of the art. You will have to learn how to speak and work by heart.” Says Brian Ligsay, who is the Head Voice Coach and Voiceworx! Director. He claims that the workshop produces learned voice talents, equipping them with what they need to prepare for, when the occasion arises.

“Being a voice over is not far from taking a four year engineering course in college… you just don’t become one overnight,” Ligsay adds. “And even after you finish your degree, you would still have to know how to apply what you’ve learned in “real” life. The good news is, with the knowledge you have, you’re far ahead than anyone in your age to land a job of your choice and keep it.”

“VoiceWorx! has been training enthusiasts and voice talents since 2005, and is continually producing new voices for clients.” Pocholo Gonzales, CEO and Managing Director of Creativoices Productions - which is widely known as a voice talent agency, and the same company who brought Voiceworx! to life. He also exclaims that, “You work with the best Voice Directors in the industry, and train with them so that you don’t venture into it alone..”

This time, a new breed of Voice Overs are coming into place, VoiceWorx! 6, starts this October 4, 2008 and runs for two months every Saturdays. Out of hundreds of interested parties, only 20 students were accepted. And they will learn how to appreciate voice acting, and study with acclaimed Dubbing Directors, Danny Mandia, Neil Tolentino and Alexx Agcaoili.

This workshop offers new insights into the latest trend and development in the voice acting world. With tips and tricks from professionals who have honed their skills thru many years of experience. It also features a manual edition of the Philippine Handbook on Voice acting, to guide the privileged during the entire course. Plus one-on-one voice coaching, road mapping scripts and translations, actual recording and dubbing sessions, and countless mock auditions.

For the longest time, people who ventured into voiceovers are taking into account the traditional and natural selection process that goes around in the industry. Through customary referrals and PR, you get more of the gimmick in the advertising world. This tiring process of whom you know and who knows you is the lifeblood of your next performance. Traditional voice talents are only hopeful that their regular client will always consider them for the next job. “They just wait and wait, without acting,” Gonzales says. Adding that talents should know how to create the demand.

But some are wiser to help themselves and not rely on this conventional form of getting voice over “gigs”. Those who are serious, aim for the better and more beneficial way of staying in the business, that said, considering it as a business. And by investing time, effort, and money to learn the field of voice acting, and marketing your talent - it will produce you better results and open new doors of success.

“Voice acting is not everyone, but should you decide to pursue it.. it will release the kid in you, and turn your voice into something you have never imagined possible,” Ligsay mentioned. “And maybe, just maybe, you’ll turn out to be a mutant of a voice after all!”

Voiceworx! – Basic Voice Acting and Dubbing Workshop, is only offered 4 times a year. For more information on the next schedule, please call 729-7274/970-0971. Voice Actors Vs. On-Screen Talents

In my many years as a professional voice performer and producer, I often encounter comparisons to a trend in the industry about Screen Actors taking the job of those who have been doing it decades. This popularity of On-cam Personalities performing behind them mike is nothing new, however it has been a rising factor in movie theaters and animated features nowadays.

Animation is the reality of imagination. The justice to any script for which, depends entirely on the voice actor’s performance. That is why voice overs, require a unique set of skills and mastery of the art, in order to deliver what the animator intends to show. No matter how good an animation is, if you have a poor set of voices, you will end up with something that is worthless. However, if you have a simple animation on hand, but with an exceptional lineup of voice actors, you will be surprised with the results. Here are some pointers why hiring a voice actor against an on-cam actor is beneficial for your animation project.

VOICE ACTOR

ON-CAM ACTOR/MODEL

BUDGET

Relatively Cheaper

20-30 times more expensive

AVAILABILITY

Always

Depending on project/product restrictions

KNOWLEDGE OF THE CRAFT

Perfect

May need to attend workshops and 1 on 1 coaching

MIC SKILLS

Honed thru years of experience

Many are working 1st time on dubbing or voice overs

PERFORMANCE

Flawless

May have difficulty coping up with the microphone

INDUSTRY POPULATION (NO. OF TALENTS)

5 times more the number of on-screen actors

Those who only made an on-screen debut are considered actors

VOICES

Exponential

Limited to Conversational

VOICE QUALITY

Perfect behind the mic

May require additional tuning

EXPOSURE

Popular with a niche market/captured following

Has on-cam/modeling advantages

CHARACTERIZATION

Can work with new set of voices, and experiment. Many voice actors can do atleast 5 voices

Maybe thrown off with the idea of changing his/her voice. Limited to 1

KNOWLEDGE OF RECORDING

Adept

Enough

KNOWLEDGE IN PROCESSES

Knows exactly what’s going on behind the booth

Some Familiar. Some Not.

OVER-ALL PERFORMANCE

FOR ANIMATION

None better

Exceptionally few

ABILITY TO SYNCH AND IMPROVISE

(faced with reactions)

Effortless. Cutting recording time by 75%

Will depend on what the director says and the material. May need to spend more time on recording

SCHEDULING

Always present, easily managed. No star complex

Will have to be adjusted for appearances and confirmation

Like they say, kids go to movies to watch and love the story. They do not care if an on-cam actor is doing the part or a voice over. What is important is that they believe and react to the characters, and be motivated by it.. by statistics anyone can easily spot who can deliver the story between the two. You can always get a screen actor to do the job, but you can never beat a voice over’s performance.

You be the judge of which.

What to expect behind the mike..

To some, facing the microphone raises hell. To us voice actors its all in a day's work.

For quite sometime now, I've been thinking of what to feature in this blog and where to start. Having been doing voice overs for many years, I guess I should focus on the career elements as I'm taking it full time.. And being the Marketing Director of CreatiVoices Productions, I'm constantly bombarded with questions from producers and talents alike. Those seeking Voice talents ask me how and where to get them, and those who want to be voice talents, ask me tips and where to find VO jobs.. So I've decided to come up with topics suited for voice actors at least 3 times a week.. and this based on my personal experience.

So, let me begin by a topic aptly entitled: What to expect behind the mike..

Performing behind the microphone baffles many of course.. it's not something that is taught in college, or picked-up during your childhood days. To some degree its very much like taking up medicine or engineering - the more you practice, the better you get at it. It's not as easy as it looks, because I had an experience with my student once who is so afraid of the microphone, she suffered severe LBM and had a fever before recording (extreme maybe but yes, it's true). Although there are some who are "gifted" to perform, not everyone can face the music or in this case voice it. But one thing is for sure, everything in this craft can be learned and mastered.

So that brings us to the 10 things you should consider when going on cue:

1. When behind the microphone, make sure you remember your correct distance from the receiver. Don't sway or move when performing (unless told to do so) because this greatly affects the level of your voice.

Some voice actors use what is called the "proximity effect", by getting closer to the microphone it produces a more warm and personal voice. I used this in one of my commercials for Magic Sing and a character I played for Ursula's Kiss - Akio Mike Ohtori.

The proximity effect should never be abused of course, and the use of which depends entirely on the material. If you're doing a boxing event or a concert for example, you can't perform that close to the mike.

2. Make sure you pack away all noisy materials, or jewelries you may have. Unwanted sounds can damage a good performance. Make sure your clothing does not produce noise. Stick to cotton fabrics as they say, and avoid nylon or wool when performing.

Whenever I'm behind the mic, I remove my watch and my ring.. I take this as a cue for me to take on the session seriously (sometimes I don't, and I just want to have fun). It makes me focus on what matters and be careless about the time (although time is of great importance in recording sessions).

3. Never hold the script unless you are can perform without making any paper noise. Voice actors tend to move a lot, so when you have a script in hand you might generate that annoying crumple and ruin your take. When faced with continuation lines, lie the script side by side on the stand, or let it fall gently to the floor.

Sometimes scripts are stapled for filing, but a properly prepared material should be stapled at the lower left hand corner of the paper. If this is the case, just let the paper fall naturally to the side when continuing in a live recording.

4. Allow the Technician to place the microphone as he pleases. A common mistake for many amateur Voice talents is touching the microphone, or its accessories. Never, ever touch any equipment inside the studio, unless told to do so.

Studio mikes are expensive, and if improperly handled - will break easily. You don't want your salary to go to replacing the microphone if you break it.

5. Adjust your headset accordingly for a snug fit. Studio headsets should cover both of your entire ear lobes. Never leave one hanging to the side or to your neck. The sound coming out from their tiny speakers, can cause unwanted feedback. Feedback happens when a signal is looped from its source, creating that high-pitched annoying sound. Should you need to adjust the headset, tell the technician and veer away from the microphone first.

In real recording sessions, it does not make you look cool with one piece of the headset on. It makes you look stupid and unprofessional. Nobody cares if your hairdo gets messy for 30 minutes. I know some may be thinking, "Hey what about talking DJ's?" I myself am one, and on air I do that for one good reason.. To rely on my natural hearing and minimize the damage of "DJ's EAR" (A topic which I will touch sometime later on)

6. When asked for a level, read the script as you would perform it. This would give the technician a chance to adjust the volume for your performance and give you practice time without the worry of being judged by the client.

If it is a short script the tech may ask you to read a few more times. Indulge.

7. When asked for a SLATE or ID, this informs you to read out the title of the material, the length and your name. Remember the formula, and it doesn't really matter which comes first. This is followed by the standard take numbers: TAKE 1.. This is a guide for the technician when editing the material. (e.g. "Brian Pogi.. Nachos Bonitos... 15 seconder RC.. take 1")

In many of my recordings, the technician often relies on his setup to ID the material. He may or may not ask you to do this, but as a standard practice you should say it before delivering your first line. Even if not asked to do so, it will still make you sound more of a professional when inside a recording studio. However, you don't need to do this every time you commit an error in the script, or if you need to give it another treatment. Just promptly say TAKE 2 for the next cues..

8. Remember to wait for the signal before starting to talk. Technicians and Directors have a wide variety of giving you the "cue". Here are just some of my favorite lines, followed by my quirky explanations:

"...And anytime." (today)
"...Whenever your ready." (what if I'm not)
"...ok" (ok. ok? ok. ok?)
"...and (points to you. Me?)
"...go" (to the bathroom?)
"...shoot" (them all?)
"...go ahead" (where?)
"...action" (..I don't know why)
"...roll" (and rock.)

and my all time favorite:
"..rolling po kami" ("We're rolling," in English)

When you make a mistake, promptly say to the client and the tech, that you want to try it differently. Never say sorry (I will discuss this in another topic). Perform at your peak as you did your first line, even though it is take 72, the energy should still be at take 1. (I also have another interesting topic about this soon).

9. After doing your part, and before going out of the studio, thank the producer or the client/s and the technician. You may politely ask them, if there is anything else they want you to record before taking off your headset. Do not go out with your headset on. If you forget your headset on, you might trip or pull with you the microphone, stand and everything. Oh, I've seen this a lot of times and believe me its always funny every time..

Make sure you place your headset at the holder, on the chair or on the floor. Never hang the headset on the microphone. Check that it is away from any danger of being accidentally broken, or damaged.

10. If you're doing commercials (or any projects for that matter), make sure you sign your contract or settle out your talent fees professionally. Sometimes, the casting director is assigned to this. But any staff from the studio or the client may ask for your signature. (I think I should come up with another topic about how to settle talent fees)

In some cases, contracts may come directly from the client and not from the studio. Make sure you remember you TIN# when signing. Bring out your pen for a speedier transaction. And remember to thank the staff or client afterwards. Some recording studios provide you with a copy of the contract, while other's don't. In any case, it helps to bring out a small ledger or notebook and jot down the details of the project and the date of the recording.

Now all you need to do is follow-up and wait for your checks to come. If you do good, expect to get more calls soon (which is a voice actor's dream). I will bring up a topic next time on how to properly follow-up payments, and how to avoid scrupulous producers (yes, they are out there).

For now goodluck and May the voice be with you.

Summer Voice Over Seminars

The 2-day
Intensive Voice Over Workout!

Commercial, Corporate and LIVE Voice Overs

From the the successful series of VOICEWORX! - Voice Acting seminars, comes a targeted program catering to one of the most demanding aspects of voice over jobs - Commercial, Corporate and Live Voice Overs..

This is your chance to improve your voice over skills and further their careers in the industry. Recommended for voice actors for commercial and live events, those who want to learn new tips and tricks of the trade, and the latest buzz in the industry. Or if you are just starting out, this intensive voice over workout will give you the edge over other voice actors.

It will leave you feeling exhausted, but overwhelmed with potentials!

WHAT ABOUT COMMERCIALS?

Commercial Voice Overs are amongst the highest paid and critically screened jobs for voice actors. Producers, Agencies and Companies are paying by the millions for airtime, and they want just the perfect voice for the job. In the Philippines, it is estimated that less than 50 people are marked for the job, out of 2000 voice talents available in Metro Manila alone.

And only a handful of these 50 people are getting what they deserve... More return calls for projects every week!

"I always tell producers, you can get amateurs or newcomers for the job, but don't expect professional results.." says Apollo Abraham. He adds that with a professional voice over, you save time, effort and face - meaning getting the right guy to represent your company or event, and avoiding embarrassing circumstances.

The "trade name" - Abraham, appears as a guest speaker in the program - will provide an in-depth look on what producer's and clients are looking for, and how you maintain the clientèle. His extensive experience on voice over work for commercial and live events, will be heard for the first time in a controlled environment.

Aside from standard VOs for commercials, the demand for character actors in this field has grown in the last 10 years. "Its all about maintaining the character and being there.." explains Jeff Utanes. "Many people can imitate a phrase, a word or two.. but when faced with auditions.. it's a whole new ball game.." Utanes adds, saying that he always gets the job done right not because he can imitate the voice, but because he can act it.

Utanes, is a Veteran Dubbing Director at ABS-CBN and Hero TV and is the beloved voice of: Son Gokou in "Dragon Ball Z" (Tagalog TV Series), Aljon in "Oh! Feel Young" (Korean soap) (Tagalog), Ariel Villaroel, Lopez and Atty. Sanchez in "Letty la mas Fea" (La Fea mas Bella), Charlie in "Amazing Twins" (Mandarin TV series) (Tagalog), Jumong in "Jumong " (Tagalog), Narrator in "Aalog Alog" (Tagalog), Principal Sumulong in "Masayang Tanghali Bayan" (Tagalog), Shinya Hiraga in "Geisenshin Justirisers" (Tagalog), Son Goku in "The Monkey Adventure" (J-Drama) (Tagalog), Voice Over in "Commercial Products" (Arthro) (Tagalog),Voice Over in "Sharon" (ABS-CBN Primetime Talkshow) (Tagalog) and many more. His talk in the seminar will focus mainly on doing character voice overs and trade secrets on how to do voices for animation and dubbing.

What is a Voice-Over?

" A voice over is any recording or performance by one or more unseen voices for the purpose of communicating a message" – James Alburger. Any message you hear without seeing the performer is considered to be voice-over. This means voice-over is all around us! Whether you are listening to the radio, watching movies or television, dining at your fast food restaurant or riding the rail transit, voice-overs can be heard!

Is doing Voice-overs hard?

Voice-overs can actually be done by anyone! And it's a very rewarding job indeed. A lot of Voice Talents are being paid to play and many professional voice-overs get their kick out of the industry just by enjoying what they do. Anybody can do a voice-over, but not everybody can do voice acting.

So what is Voice Acting?

Voice acting is an art. And like all other art forms it has tools and techniques which must be mastered in order for you to succeed in the level of success you want to deserve. Its about finding the kid in you. It requires dedication and passion for doing Voice-over jobs, and lots of patience to master the skills. True, not everyone can do voice acting, but anybody can benefit from learning how it works. In fact, many of the students in Creativoices Clinic don't pursue voice-over jobs, but need the voice acting skills to further themselves in their chosen field.

How do I benefit from Voice Acting lessons?

If you want to break into the world of voice-overs, then voice acting is a must for you. By knowing how to express yourself properly, you can create real and believable characters for commercials, narrations, radio drama and most especially animation. With voice acting you can liven up a conversation and get the attention you want, whether its on a business or a personal level. If you or your job requires you to:

1. Communicate with other people on the same or higher business level.
2. Prepare Scripts, Write-ups or Citations for Productions
3. Talk to customers or clients and close business deals fast and efficient.
4. Constantly talk to other people and associates by way of declamation, speech or impromptu performance.
5. Or maybe you love to sing, host or perform for an audience.
6. Express yourself in a creative and entertaining manner.

Who can do Voice-Acting?

Anyone who needs to talk can communicate better when he/she uses voice acting techniques. Which means that even salespersons, promodizers, carpenters, engineers, attorneys, teachers, draftsmen, doctors, nurses, utility personnel, front desk officers, etc.. can learn voice acting, and benefit from expressing or communicating properly and creatively, with their peers.

What about Creativoices Clinic?

Creativoices Clinic is one of the departments of Creativoices Productions – the premier voice over solutions provider in the country. And it is now offering the Creative Voice Acting Workshop, the only one of its kind in the Philippines today. There are many voice acting schools abroad and many Voice talents offering "experience" based teaching, but none offers a detailed and thorough application and training by book and modules like Creativoices Clinic.

What do I expect from the training?

In Creative Voice Acting Workshop, you'll get:

1. Personalized, one on one voice coaching and training throughout the workshop - from real and credible Voice Acting Professionals
2. Information you need to know to become a successful voice actor and communicator.
3. Create real and believable characters from within you and learn how to bring them back when needed.
4. Training materials and assignments to keep you at pace with the workshop and rapidly develop your voice acting skills.
5. Professional Critiques to hear and identify your voice qualities and problems.
6. Knowledge on how to self-market and promote your talent, professionally.

How does it work?

The workshop lasts for about 2-3 intensive hours each session, once a week. There are 3 training modules divided into 8 sessions and categories:

Session 1: The Voice That Works
Session 2: Starting Over – What it takes to be a voice talent
Session 3: Accents, Dictions, Variety, Articulation and Movement. How to Create Voices.

So hurry up before slots run out!

Voiceover Tip of the Week
Keep it Cotton! Whenever performing behind the microphone in a "dead environment" (studio booth), make sure you keep away from noisy clothing, as this might ruin a great take. Voice actors always move and needs to react to act. Therefore wearing noisy fabric, such as nylon or wool, might affect the quality of the recording. Also, refrain from using dangling accessories and too much "BLING". They always produce unwanted noise that you don't want interfering with your performance. Remember microphones in these places, can pick up even the tiniest bubbles in your saliva, so check your outfit first - keep it clean and simple, and we don't suggest you perform naked either!

Most of all keep your outfit smart and comfortable, true you are getting paid by the way you speak and not by the way you dress. But producers are always on the lookout for healthy outputs and great appearance!

New VoiceWorx sched opens!

CreatiVoices Announces its New Schedule for VoiceWorx!

After the successful campaign and overwhelming response to the voice acting workshop, CreatiVoices announces its new schedule for the next VoiceWorx classes. The said workshop offers newbie’s and enthusiasts to learn the craft and maybe jumpstart their career in Voice acting and dubbing.

"It's more than I expected," says Kish, one student who took the voice acting classes because of his hobby for anime. "Kinakabahan ako, na nakakatuwa.. ganun pala kahirap yun, pero napag-aaralan! (I was nervous and happy at the same time.. it’s that difficult, but you can learn it)," adds Patrick, who learned his new found abilities with his voice. The students had their first dubbing experience as early as the 4th session of the seminar. In one occasion they we’re even sent to other recording studios for audition opportunities, maximizing their potential as a voice talent.

Voice acting is an art, and with voiceworx the class had actual hands-on training, they work with the microphone on real recording sessions. “Gusto natin matuto din silang mag-sulat for Dubbing, (We want them to also learn about translation for dubbing),” Neil Tolentino says. The known Director-Writer for Telenovela adds it is important that dubbers not only know how to act, but to know how to say their lines properly for television audiences. Tolentino teaches in one of the session for the workshop and assign the trainees in actual dubbing sessions at ABS-CBN.

Aside from the theoretical applications of the art, they learned of the importance of a craft that has sustained commercials for TV and Radio, including radio dramas/stories handed over for generations. Danny Mandia, a veteran actor-director for dubbing and theater exclaims, “This is the best venue to learn about voice acting and dubbing, you just can’t jump into it without learning the basics… Kung hindi, hindi ka mapapansin at hindi ka makakakuha ng trabaho dito, lalo na kung baguhan ka. (If not, you won’t be noticed, and you will not be able to land a job in this field especially if you’re just starting)” Mandia adds his expertise to the seminar, by sharing his experiences and actual dubbing practices – known in the industry as the “Father of all dubbers,” as many would call him.

Gustong gusto ko si Sir Alexx (I like Sir Alexx the best)”, says Michael one of the students who had experiences of difficulty communicating his feelings. He adds that voice acting really helped him develop self-confidence, he is now able to talk more casually and confidently, auditioning roles for telenovela and even animation. “Importante sa lahat yung puso sa performance (It is the heart which is the most important in a performance),” comments Alexx Agcaoili. Hailing from theater and born leader in the industry of dubbing, Agacaoili examines each of the talent’s potential and harnesses their creativity to bring them into character in a performance. His works include directorial for tagalized versions of Inu Yasha, Fruits Basket, GI Joe, Duel Masters, RAVE Master, Mobile Suit Gundam, Rouruni Kenshin, and hundreds of others, including the role of Sanchai’s father in the popular series Meteor Garden being shown in GMA7.

“But that’s not all voiceovers do,” says Brian Ligsay, Director for VoiceWorx. “Voice actors can also do AVPs, live events, narration, audio book, podcasting, telephony prompts, multimedia, internet application and so much more.. “ he adds. CreatiVoices aims to bridge producers and voiceovers in the Philippines by providing a venue for outsourcing talents.

What is a Voice-Over?“ A voice over is any recording or performance by one or more unseen voices for the purpose of communicating a message” – James Alburger. Any message you hear without seeing the performer is considered to be voice-over. This means voice-over is all around us! Whether you are listening to the radio, watching movies or television, dining at your fast food restaurant or riding the rail transit, voice-overs can be heard!
Is doing Voice-overs hard?Voice-overs can actually be done by anyone! And it’s a very rewarding job indeed. A lot of Voice Talents are being paid to play and many professional voice-overs get their kick out of the industry just by enjoying what they do. Anybody can do a voice-over, but not everybody can do voice acting.
So what is Voice Acting?Voice acting is an art. In fact, many of the students in Creativoices Clinic don’t pursue voice-over jobs, but need the voice acting skills to further themselves in their chosen field.
If you or your job requires you to:- Communicate with other people on the same or higher business level.
- Prepare Scripts, Write-ups or Citations for Productions
- Talk to customers or clients and close business deals fast and efficient.
- Constantly talk to other people and associates by way of declamation, speech or impromptu performance.
- Or maybe you love to sing, host or perform for an audience.
- Express yourself in a creative and entertaining manner.
Who can do Voice-Acting?Anyone who needs to talk can communicate better when he/she uses voice acting techniques. Which means that even salespersons, promodizers, carpenters, engineers, attorneys, teachers, draftsmen, doctors, nurses, utility personnel, front desk officers, etc.. can learn voice acting, and benefit from expressing or communicating properly and creatively, with their peers.
What is Creativoices Clinic?Creativoices Clinic is one of the departments of Creativoices Productions – the premier voice over solutions provider in the country. And it is now offering the Creative Voice Acting Workshop, the only one of its kind in the Philippines today. There are many voice acting schools abroad and many Voice talents offering “experience” based teaching, but none offers a detailed and thorough application and training by book and modules like Creativoices Clinic.
What do I expect from the training? In Creative Voice Acting Workshop, you’ll get:1.

Filipino voice talents find their way into gaming
By Erwin OlivaINQ7.netLast updated 09:33pm (Mla time) 07/21/2006

Former radio disc jockey turned professional voice talent Brian Ligsay never imagined becoming the voice of a virtual character in a PC game.

With luck, Luis Manalac, founder of a local game development company Ladyluck Digital Media Inc., spotted him hosting an event in Manila. He was then invited to become one of the voices in a PC game now known as Terra Wars: NY Invasion.

"It was the first time that I did a voice of a three-dimensional computer game," said Ligsay who is also marketing director and chief operating officer of Creative Voices.
Ligsay has been a professional voice talent since 1997. He also produces, writes scripts, and recruits other voice talents for television, radio, advertising, audio books, animation, and recently, gaming. Established in November 2005, Creative Voices has over 200 voice talents here and abroad.

Still, Ligsay said the local voice talent industry is a "young" industry.
His recent job with LadyLuck Digital Media showed, however, that there is a potential market for local professional voice talents in gaming.

The "voice work" in Terra Wars: NY Invasion took at least five days to finish, Ligsay said. This included recording, editing and sound direction. The recording process took at least two to three hours to finish, he added.

Because of their experience in doing voice in animation, Creative Voices was hired to contribute more to make the game experience better, he said.
The company eventually directed two known television hosts Mike Enriquez and Vicky Morales, both from GMA Network Inc., to do voices for two major characters in the PC game.

"They had so much fun," Ligsay said, recalling his experience with Enriquez and Morales.
Creative Voices managing director and chief executive officer Pocholo Gonzales was also part of the Terra Wars: NY Invasion's pool of voice talents.
Voice talents in the Philppines can earn decent money if they diversify, Ligsay said.
For gaming, voice talents can earn between 10,000 to 20,000 pesos per character for an entire game, he said. This is relatively lower than what local voice talents earn from radio, television, commercials, and voice-over jobs.

PODCASTING version 2

How to Create your own
VIDEOCAST in WINDOWS

By: Pocholo Gonzales “The Voicemaster” and
Brian Ligsay “The Godpodder” of Creativoices Productions.

The next generation of podcasting has arrived. If you think podcasting was easy and you’re up for more challenges, here’s another broadcast medium that will test your creativity. Soon it may replace television as we know it. (or maybe not!) Its called Videocasting! - Podcasting version 2. And The Godpodder and Voicemaster is back to give you a step by step dummy guide on what’s cooking over other people’s IPODs.

Just like podcasts, you can easily create videocasts by the use of your computer. Now millions and millions of people can view your videos through I-tunes and download them to their favorite portable video players. With the aide of QuickTime 7 Pro and our favorite FREE IPOD VIDEO CONVERTER, it is now easy to put your thoughts and your face in the spotlight.
If you haven’t passed the steps on creating your own podcast, then you should get a backcopy of MPH and learn how to setup one. You can also learn more about it at www.creativoices.com This time you can impress your friends by how you look and sound. Because the steps are kinda similar, starring in your own porn movie, I mean premium movie will be a breeze.

Step 1 – What to wear.
As usual its about content. Decide on what to shoot and how long. A good videocast may last for about 5 minutes or so. Make sure its creative enough, like you birthday bloopers or interesting places. Remember you want to create an audience that will ask for more. You can use your DV camcorder, your favorite camera and yes, even your cell phones. Many phones and digital cams however are limited to their card or internal memory. For best quality, keep your video recording in DV format or uncompressed video in a .mov file. If its not in MOV file, we’ll get into that in a moment. Lets assume you are using your digital camera or maybe even your cell phone. You can shoot whatever you like! But consider the lighting, the background and even the noise. Afterwhich, upload them into your PC.

Step 2 – From >oi^&*^#(*”]<.. to ENGLISH.
Since IPODS are a popular video and audio player, its important to export your file in .MOV, .M4V or .MP4 formats. These are the only formats that are readable by I-PODs everywhere. If your file is not in this format, then you can download this free IPOD video converter at http://www.ipod-video-converter.org/free-ipod-video-converter.exe. This is a free ware with NO malware, spyware, Trojans or backdoors viruses. And its only 1.4 Mb! Install it in your computer and you’ll have something like this:

Step 3 – Up and down, left and right.

Follow the step by step guide on how to export your file into .MP4 format. Click on Add files and locate your media. Free IPOD Video converter supports all popular video formats including AVI, MPEG, WMV (ASF), RM, RMVB, DivX, ASF, VOB etc. When you have your file you will have something like this:

An insert window which displays the format and details of your media.

Step 4 – Less is more.

Now click next and you will be prompted with a settings windows that displays the video and audio bitrate. The higher the bitrate the bigger the file. You’ll also notice an output information about the file your are trying to convert. You can adjust this by sliding the Video or Audio Quality, to the left or right. This will also affect the file size of your media so it is wise to keep it at a fairly normal level (which is set by default) 320x240 pps.

Step 5 – Your Movie. Your Choice.
Now to begin converting your media file, you must click next and you will see a tag display. Here you are free to edit the file name, the author, which genre and copyright issues (if any).

Once your done with that its now time to convert the file into something that IPOD “understands”.. by clicking the OK button. This will bring you back to the main window, now click on the CONVERT button and you will have something like this:

This is a progress window and it will tell you where the file is created and how long will it take to finish. Remember the bigger or “sharper” the file, the longer it takes. Once your done converting, it will prompt you to open the file in its location. You can now use Quicktime or Windows Media Player to preview the video in MP4 format.

Step 6 – Getting there and getting them
Once you have completed the conversion, double-click the new file and play it to make sure it looks as you expect. You now have a file that is ready to be published. You can now connect to the internet and do the steps we taught you on how to setup your own podcast. Publish the exported file to the Internet as an enclosure on a blogging service, such as Blogger, and wrapped in a podcast-friendly RSS feed. (Please note: the file must be hosted on a web server such as ourmedia.org or multiply.com) RSS feed providers, such as FeedBurner, make it easy to create an RSS file from your blog. When your done with that tell your friends about your new videocast. Add some funny notes about it, or something to describe your video. You can even pass it as an email attachment to your co-videocasters. For a sample of a videocast visit: http://feeds.feedburner.com/babydaniel

Then to reach a potential audience of millions, have your podcast listed in popular podcast sites. You can also publish your podcast to iTunes Podcast Directory (subject to it being free of copyrighted or overtly explicit material). For inclusion in the iTunes Music Store, you'll need to provide the link to the podcast RSS feed and all episodes within a podcast must be available as .m4v, .mp4 or .mov video file enclosures. Since all the files converted in our Free IPOD video converter are IPOD ready files, then you don’t have to worry about this. If you’re troubled about how you’ll look on TV, try videocasting first. There’s no harm with experimenting. Shoot and edit as you like. Then convert and publish. Maybe you can discover your potentials, and soon you’ll be a star and the director of your own movie, available worldwide!

Podcasting in 5 Easy Steps

How to setup you very own Podcast in 5 easy steps
By: Pocholo Gonzales and Brian Ligsay,
Of Creativoices Productions

Podcasting took the internet by storm with its release in the first quarter of last year. No it is not a machine, a gadget nor a program. It is a broadcast medium format that is very widely accepted. Now there is an estimated 20 million subscribers in the US alone. And each day more and more people are either tuning (or out) and setting up their own podcast. Its appeal is generally accepted, because listeners get to listen to “real” people, with real and believable conversations about their common interests, and not over radio broadcasts with their over hyped advertisements and commercials (with the exception of a few). And because it is downloadable, you can listen to your favorite “podcast” through your favorite MP3 player, while driving, at work or even while enjoying your favorite sport. So how do you get yourself out there? Well, we know about podcasting more than anyone out there in the country today. In fact, we’re the only company that offers podcasting services! And we’re more than happy to give you the basics of this internet programming revolution.

THE BASICS.

We’ll define how to set it up in 5 easy steps. But first you have to know the basics. Podcasting or Podcast came from the word I-POD, the ever popular MP3 and video player by Apple Macintosh. And the term “broadcast”, to distribute or make known. Although it is generally the idea to promote I-PODs with this new medium, APPLE Macintosh agrees that you don’t need an IPOD to listen to podcasts. With podcasting you can create your own personal diary, setup audio presentations for internet subscriptions, and even commentaries all in cyberspace. Consider it as your very own radio station over the internet! This means you have complete control over its content, and get your listeners from across the globe!

Podcasts are essentially an audio blog of your interest, hobby or about anything you wanna talk about or play over the internet. Your audience (that is the subscribers) can download the episodes you created by the use of an RSS aggregator (too techy!) or simply put a podcast catcher (more of that in a moment). As a society, people have become conditioned over generations to expect certain patterns in radio-like content. Podcasting is no exception. Even if your podcast sounds like radio, the most important piece of the podcasting puzzle is that anybody can do it. It is arguable that podcasting is done by common folks, but since everybody would like to take advantage of this new medium, we have categorized podcasting into two types: PERONAL/SMALL BUSINESS and SPECIALTY/CORPORATE. Personal/small business podcasts, are simple, easy-listening types and will serve just about any purpose you have for the internet. But Corporate/Specialty type of podcasting requires creative and careful attention to content, presentation, programming, voice talents and detail. Like stock exchange podcasts, radio podcasts (can you imagine!), business report podcasts, news, interviews and special skills. You can listen to an example of a corporate type podcast at http://podworx.blogspot.com It’s a specialty in Voice Acting in the Philippines, so go figure. No matter what content, both types of podcasts will still use the same basic steps. So don’t worry, you’ll be podcasting in a moment.

THE IDIOT’S GUIDE TO PODCASTING.
Here we go.

Now that you know a little about podcasts, decide what your content will be. Remember you can talk about anything, but not everything! If you want to become a successful podcaster, you have to offer some point of interest to your listeners, like your favorite anime, PS2 game or even sport. Something that you think will be worthwhile to listen to. The best way to approach this is to have a script available, or some sort of itemized topics that you wanna talk about and the rest will be fine. The ideal length of time for a podcast is about 15-20 minutes, without boring your listeners. Its about the same time of commute from North Avenue station to Ayala MRT Station.

You can also brighten up your podcast by adding a little intro/extro or background music and hosting it with a friend. It gives your podcast a certain “feel” of professionalism. And you’ll find it easier to the mike with a friend, than doing it alone. When choosing a music for your podcast, make sure its pleasing to “everybody’s” ear. We all have preferences but it is wise to keep your background music at a fairly low level so that it doesn’t eat up the conversation or your message.

STEP 1 – GEAR ASSEMBLY AND RECORDING

After you have decided on your content, its now time to record. It really doesn’t matter how you will do it, but we’ll assume this is a personal podcast and you will be using your computer. Most podcasters make use of their computers to set-up their podcasts. And like many of them you will need some sort of equipment. Your computer must first support an audio/mic input thru its soundcard. You can get a good soundcard if you don’t have one, there are also external types like AUDIGY from Creative Labs, but it’s a little costly. If you have a generic computer (that is brought as a package) soundcards may be built in or come as a bundle in your CPU. If you’re not sure about this you can look at the back of your CPU and you should see some sort of colored inputs (pink, green and red) each with engraved pictures of a sound, mic and input. You can get a good dynamic (cardiod) microphone (we use SHURE SM58) and an adaptor for the mic input (1/4 PL to ¾ PL adaptor). A great pair of headset (not earphones! or suffer the consequences of “ear-aches”), and make sure both of your ears are covered.

And finally a software program for which to edit your recording and encode them into MP3. There are many types of audio programs out there. Apple Mac users can avail of the Garage Band software. Windows and PC-based computers may use a free program called AUDACITY. Its quite easy to use, and you can layer audio files to suit your podcasting needs. We are using ADOBE AUDITION (the old COOL EDIT Pro) and PROTOOLS 6.4, it’s a little bit technical and expensive, but we need it for our job. You on the other hand, can get away with AUDACITY or any type of audio software you like. If you haven’t worked with an audio software before, this step may be a little daunting at first. But you’ll get the hang of it when you read the documentation that comes with your software and with constant practice recordings. The important thing here is that your software must be able to encode to MP3 files.

You will still need some other stuff, that may come in handy when doing your recordings. Like a mike stand for which to hold your microphone and a music stand for which to carry your script. You may also want to do your recordings in as much as little noise in the background available. If your planning to use a condenser mic (which is a little bit expensive and sensitive), you will also need a mixer with phantom power (BEHRINGER is by far the cheapest). There is also the new USB condenser microphone from SAMSON Audio, which is great for podcasting. All you need is plug to it into your PC and you are minutes away from recording. You may also prompt to use a pop filter to protect your microphone and lessen the “puh” sound in your recordings. The best way to eliminate the “puh” sound is by talking over (and not directly to) the mic or placing the mic 6 inches from your chin or across your forehead. This is just one the many essentials and tips of recording that we can discuss some other time (if the editor permits!).

STEP 2 – PUBLISHING YOUR CONTENT

Now that you have your content its time for your audience to get a hold of it! (FINALLY) But not quite yet. You will have to find a way to get it to the net and stay there for even a lifetime. If you have your own website, you can just add your files to a specific folder in your site. If you don’t have a site, there are a number of free online storages or at small costs. The best site for storing audio files (or anything for that matter) is at www.ourmedia.org. Signing up is easy and its free for a lifetime! If you intend to host a lot of files we recommend you opt for some sort of hosting services that will give you just about the space you need. The site www.multiply.com offers some unlimited space but you are limited to 20 audio uploads per month. If you think you can’t make that many podcasts then this site is also good for you. When you have your episodes filed over the internet, make sure you keep the shortcut tags by right clicking on the files and click copy shortcut (on IE expoler), then copy them to a notepad. You can also copy them manually but make sure you don’t make any mistakes. Otherwise you wont have a feed in your next step called SYNDICATION.

STEP 3 – SYNDICATING YOUR CONTENT

No this is not some sort of Mafia or Gang club. But it’s the most crucial part of your podcast. You have to create a feed for your audience to listen to. And this is about the power of RSS (Real Simple Syndication), that you have to tap in order to distribute your content worldwide. RSS is actually a form of script which enables your listener’s aggregators (pod catchers) to locate your podcast and subscribe to them. There are many ways to do it and its pretty darn easy nowadays to create a feed, but we’ll show you our favorite way (and its FREE!). First you have to create a BLOGGER account at www.blogger.com. This blog account will allow you to create and update the web page that will hold the links to your content. Blogger allows you to generate an Atom feed (atom.xml file) from your web log entries. The Atom feed itself doesn't allow you to podcast, but it's a necessary step. Look up the help pages on Blogger to get more information on how to set up your blog and the Atom feed. When you set up the Atom feed you'll need to specify a location for the publishing of the data file that will contain your content feed. That’s where the notepad file we ask you to do first will come in handy. You'll also need to change the blog settings to activate the Title and Link fields for your web log (this is done by default by the way) The combination of the feed with the title and link fields will give you the basic data elements necessary to create your podcasts.

Okay, the next thing to do is create your first weblog entry. Your title should be a concise description of the content you want to podcast. Then make a link of the file you want to podcast in your weblog. The link field should have the complete link location of your media. You should also add a longer description of the content along with some related insights on the content in the text of the weblog. Once you publish your first post, Blogger will generate the Atom feed to the link you indicated in the setup. The Blogger atom feed can't be picked up by the podcast proper news aggregators because the atom feed doesn't support RSS enclosures. That's why you need to use Feedburner. Feedburner takes the Atom feed and converts it to a proper RSS 2.0 feed that supports enclosures. Feedburner is free and very easy to use. When you get to your feedburner site, all you need to do is give your blogger address (that’s yourname.blogspot.com) and add the following extension “/atom.xml” when prompted. Feedburner will assign you a url for your feed and that's where everyone will go to access your feed. You want people to get your feed, don't you? Here is a sample of that feed, http://feeds.feedburner.com/podworx. Just add this link to your aggregators subscription option and start downloading! There are many types of podcatchers including the latest I-Tunes version. That is offered free or with a little contribution to its authors.

STEP 4 – PUBLICIZING YOUR FEED.
The truth is out there.

Okay, now that your finished with the dirty work, its time for people to learn more about your podcast. Its useless to have one, when no one bothers to listen, isn’t it? So here are some of the few “marketing steps” that will help you get the word out. First stop, e-mail your friends. Your buddies are your first audience of course, ask them to take some time to listen to your discovery of a certain fungus that grows on tip of the earwax, and its effect to the health of new fleas in the planet. Or just tell them to download your podcast by providing the links. Next try this, go to ipodder.org, podcast.net and podcast.yahoo.com and have yourself listed. This way more people can find you and your podcast. Now the I-tunes program offers podcasting uploads for free, however you will have to sign-up using your credit card. You wont be charged for uploading really, but it’s a hassle when you don’t have a credit card. And third, you can also ping http://audio.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm in order to get your feed included every time you add a new enclosure. On the Feed Burner setup page under Publicize/Pingshot there is a checkbox to allow an automatic ping to audio.weblogs.com and others, every time you update your feed with a new enclosure. When you PING a weblog site it actually just refreshes its list of new and updated podcasts, so that aggregator search engines can find your new episodes faster.

STEP 5 – THE FINAL STOP.
Is there another way?

When you’ve taken the four steps above, you are officially podcasting. If you don’t have the equipment, not a glitch of the word podcasting in your head, and your still worried about how you will sound over the net, or maybe, you would like to just try it out, without all the pestering links and interconnection of a podcast, then this is where you go (what a long sentence). You can make your podcasting life easier by choosing a great podcasting service provider at www.creativoices.com From the maker of podworx, they cater to simple, personal or small business podcast and can handle the most difficult type of podcasting in the market. There is nothing these guys can’t do for your podcast. Best of all the company is Filipino-owned and they come at a very affordable rate. Heck they can even go to your place so that you can podcast-away after work, while in the office, in your gym or at the comfort of your own home.

FINAL WORD
What to expect.

There are already thousands of podcasts in the planet. Some of them are into high-tech stuff and some are just plain audio diaries. But only a handful of these podcasts are made by Filipinos. You can start ahead and impress your friends, however, like we always say to new podcasters, what you post over the net is a collective reflection of you being a Filipino (patriotic podcast? Not really). Just be wise and nice in your podcast, so that everybody comes out happy. If you are new to this medium don’t be hesitant to investigate and explore its potentials. You can try different ways to record, until you find what suits you best. Try the steps we’ve mentioned until you get one feed up and running. Once you’ve created your own feed you’ll be off to the races as an active participant in this digital revolution.

What is a Voice-Over?

“ A voice over is any recording or performance by one or more unseen voices for the purpose of communicating a message” – James Alburger.

And it’s a very rewarding job indeed. A lot of Voice Talents are being paid to play and many professional voice-overs get their kick out of the industry just by enjoying what they do. Anybody can do a voice-over, but not everybody can do voice acting.

In fact, many of the students in Creativoices Clinic don’t pursue voice-over jobs, but need the voice acting skills to further themselves in their chosen field.
